Prof.Vepa P. Sarathi, was enrolled as an Advocate in 1942, designated as Senior Advocate by Supreme Court of India in 1976. As a Member of the Law Commission (Chairman Mr.Justice Mathew, retired Judge, Supreme Court, 1983-85) he has richly contributed for the development of law especially in Consumer Law, Promissory Estoppel and Contract ‘d’adhesion (Adhesive Contracts). As a Senior Advocate, Sarathi appeared in the Bhopal Gas Leak Case on behalf of Government of India as the Learned Attorney General’s Representative in the District Court at Bhopal and the High Court at Jabalpur. Prof.Sarathi was also Advocate General for Sikkim from January 1990 to October 1994 and from October 1994 to 31st December 1994, he was Chairman of the Sikkim Law Commission. Prof.Sarathi authored books on Law of Evidence, and was also an Assistant Editor of Supreme Court reports from 1964 to 1976. In 2007 Prof. Sarathi was awarded an honorary doctorate (LL.D) by NALSAR University for his outstanding contributions to the field of Law.
Professor Sarathi teaches Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Transfer of Property, Indian Evidence Act and the Constitution.
