Ph.D. PROGRAMME

(Full-Time & Part-time)

 

Eligibility for Admission:

  • Candidates who have obtained a Master’s Degree or equivalent qualifications in Law, Management or Humanities or other cognate disciplines from any recognized University or Autonomous Institution securing not less than 55% marks or its equivalent.

  • Candidates who have passed the Company Secretary Examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and awarded the Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS) are also eligible for admission to the programme.

  • Candidates who have passed the final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), New Delhi.

  • Candidates who have passed the final examination of Institute of Cost Accountants of India.

Note: In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes / Other Backward Classes (Non-creamy layer) / Persons with disabilities the requirement of marks at Master’s Degree is 50% or its equivalent.

Note :

1. The General seats have been earmarked for subjects other than the aforementioned specializations. Proposals in such other specialized areas shall be considered subject to availability of faculty and area of interest.

2. Admissions against the aforesaid vacancies shall only be made if a research proposal is found to be satisfactory and suitable. The University reserves the right not to admit candidates in any specialization if the proposal is not found to be research worthy.

# In case of part-time and full-time non-residential scholars, the additional fee on pro-rata monthly basis will be collected if they stay on campus for the Research Methodology Course.

PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION 

  1. The admission shall be based on the performance at the written test to be conducted on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11.00 a.m. at NALSAR University Campus, Justice City, Shameerpet, Hyderabad.

  2. Applicants who have cleared the UGC-NET/ UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) in their respective disciplines are exempted from writing the entrance test.

  3. The entrance test will have two components, with 50% of its weightage assessing the aptitude for research and writing skills and 50% devoted to disciplinary knowledge. The first component is mandatory for all applicants irrespective of their disciplinary background to test the ability to write professionally and in accordance with established norms of scholarship. The second component will be based on the disciplinary background or domain knowledge of the applicants.

  4. The applicants who have cleared the entrance test and also those who are exempted from writing the entrance test are required to submit a preliminary research proposal (between 1500-2000 words) with a statement of the research problem and a literature survey which demonstrates that the research topic is unexplored and an original scholarly contribution can be made on the same.

  5. The preliminary research proposals will be scrutinized for plagiarism. If the similarity index for any proposal exceeds 15%, excluding appropriately cited sources, then the applicants will not be called for the interview.

  6. The applicants whose preliminary proposals are cleared in the plagiarism test will be required to attend an interview before the Research Committee.

  7. The applicants who clear the interview will be provisionally admitted to the Ph.D. programme and will be required to attend the Research Methodology coursework conducted by the University. The Research Committee will allocate a Principal Supervisor for each candidate before the commencement of the Research Methodology Course. Research Committee in appropriate cases may give a co-supervisor who may or may not be NALSAR Faculty member.

  8. Within one month after successful completion of the Research Methodology coursework, the candidates should submit their revised research proposal to their respective Principal Supervisors.

  9. The candidates who have cleared the entrance test, but did not clear the interview shall be given one more opportunity to submit their proposal on the basis of the recommendation of the Research Committee without needing to reappear for the entrance exam.

Categories of enrolment:

  1. Full-time enrolment

  1. Enrolment for the Ph.D. programme shall ordinarily be full-time. A candidate enrolled for full-time shall put in a minimum of two years residence of which at least 18 months shall be in the University. Candidates pursuing the Ph.D. programme on a full time basis may assist in the teaching or research activities of the University.

  2. Candidates pursuing the Ph.D. programme on a full time basis are expected to complete the requirements within three years for the award of the degree.

Provided that where candidates pursuing the full time Ph.D. programme or the integrated LL.M.-Ph.D. programme are able to submit a thesis of requisite standard and quality in less than the mandated period then the University may permit an early submission with reasons recorded in writing.

  1. The Research Committee shall retain the discretion to grant one additional year for the completion of the thesis. In the event of the inability to complete the requirements within four years of the date of enrolment, the candidate will be required to convert the category of enrolment to a part-time basis.

  2. Part-time enrolment

Candidates can also enroll for part-time Ph.D. programme.

  1. A part-time candidate shall put in a minimum of four years including time spent for research at any other location with the permission of the Principal Supervisor.

  2. Six years shall be the maximum period in which the part-time candidate shall complete the research work and submit it for evaluation.

PATTERN OF THE TEST PAPER

TOTAL MARKS: 200 (First component 50% and Second component 50%). DURATION: 2 hours.

In the first component the examination will test the research and writing aptitude of the candidates through essay, comprehension and précis writing. Candidates will also be tested on their ability to write professionally and in accordance with established norms of scholarship through questions which test the candidates knowledge of the where, what and how of referencing.

In the second component the following areas are covered:

1. Law

2. Humanities

3. Business Administration

All correspondence relating to admissions should be made to the Registrar. The Application Form can be downloaded by Clicking Here and the filled in form should be sent along with a Demand Draft for Rs.2,000/- (Rs. 1,000/- in case of S.C. and S.T. candidates along with Caste Certificate) in favour of “Registrar, NALSAR University of Law” payable at Hyderabad. The duly filled-in form must reach the Registrar on or before July 31, 2017. Applications received after the last date shall not be accepted.

The University reserves the right to revise the pattern of the admission test, procedure for admission and fee structure.

Step by step process to  Apply Online for the above program:

1.      New candidate has to create Login ID & password by registering his/her name, email and password in the Registration form.

2.      After successful registration, Login with the registered Email ID and password using ‘login here’ link given below the registration form.

3.      Carefully read the contents given in the Dashboard and then Go to 'Update Profile' and fill in the data as per the form, all fields are Mandatory except experience and publication.

4.      Attach only PDF file in the attachment section.

The essential documents to be kept ready for attachment include:

a.       Passport size: less than 500KB, Only .jpg, .png, .jpeg file format

b.      Attested copy of the marks statement of X Standard (only .pdf file format)

c.      Attested copy of  Masters Degree / LL.M., M.Phil., NET(meage if you have all) and other Degree Certificates whichever is applicable. (only .pdf file format)

e.     Attested copy of  A Certificate from the institution concerned testifying length of service, wherever required (only .pdf file format)

5.      Now Click 'Update profile' Button.

6.      After successful profile update Go-to 'Make-Payment' and pay application fee.  There are two options available for payment of application fee as given below: 1. Net Banking 2. Debit / Credit Card. On selection of any option click button “Submit”. 

7.      Kindly note the total payment to be made will include the application fee charges plus nominal online payment charges.

8.      Send the payU money receipt to admissions@naslar.ac.in (link sends e-mail) , after successful payment.
