Charan Tej is a legal academic and practitioner with a multidisciplinary background and a deep commitment to socially relevant legal education. He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Pondicherry Engineering College and later transitioned to law, completing his LL.B. at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Government Law College, Pondicherry. He also holds a Master’s in Corporate and Securities Law from Pondicherry University and a postgraduate degree in Sociology.
He is currently pursuing doctoral research in Clinical Legal Education at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. His research focuses on experiential learning models in legal education and the transformative potential of clinical pedagogy in advancing access to justice.
Before his academic tenure, he was a practising attorney specialising in Environmental Litigation and Land Rights. From 2016 to 2018, he served as an Assistant Counsel at the Office of the Government Pleader, High Court of Judicature at Madras. During this period, he contributed to several high-profile cases, including the Isha Foundation forest encroachment, the Coovum River restoration, and the Ennore oil spill.
