Library

“A university is just a group of buildings gathered around a library.” - Shelby Foote

About the Library

At NALSAR, the Library is not merely a facility, it is the intellectual core of the University. Given the emphasis on self-learning and discovery through research that defines legal education here, it is, by any measure, a vital space.

The NALSAR Law Library is one of the largest law libraries in India, not just in terms of physical breadth, but in terms of capacity, curation, and reach. Its collection spans over 65,000 physical volumes and more than three lakh e-books, covering law, social sciences, and allied disciplines. Subscriptions have been made to over 100 newspapers, magazines, and journals. The reference section stocks complete volume sets of the most prestigious compilations and law journals in the field.

The Library’s Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is a real-time, internally updated database that enables users to locate titles and navigate the collection with precision accessible from anywhere on and off campus. Library cards entitle members of the NALSAR community to borrow books on weekdays. Locker facilities are also available.

Forthcoming Initiatives

The Library is currently developing a proposal to obtain access to case records across levels of the Indian judicial system. It is also working toward establishing an oral archive of testimonies surrounding landmark legal developments like landmark cases, legislation, and law reform initiatives. These projects reflect the Library’s ambition to serve not only as a repository of existing scholarship but as an active site for the creation and preservation of primary legal knowledge.
