The Government of Telangana has appointed Prof. (Dr.) Murali Karnam, Professor of Law at NALSAR and Director, Access to Justice Program, as a Member of the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) for a period of two years beginning from 12 August, 2026.

The TSLSA was constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide free legal services to weaker sections of society and to organize Lok Adalats for the amicable settlement of disputes. It is headed by Hon’ble Justice P. Sam Koshy of the High Court of Telangana, who serves as its Executive Chairperson.

As a member of the TSLSA, Prof. Karnam will have the opportunity to suggest measures that can improve the quality of legal aid services to various groups, including prisoners and children in conflict with the law.

NALSAR’s Access to Justice Program for Prisoners, headed by Prof. Karnam, was started  in April 2024 as a systematic extension of the Prison Legal Aid Clinic Program run by the university since 2018. Its objective is to provide qualitative free legal aid to undertrial prisoners in Telangana, and to support prisoners from vulnerable backgrounds. The Centre does this through systematic and holistic intervention by a team of trained and dedicated advocates, social workers and law students interested in the criminal justice system.
