Assistant Professor of Law

I am an Assistant Professor of Law at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, and a doctoral researcher working at the intersection of anti-discrimination law, gender identity, caste, and disability. My Ph.D. examines the limits of anti-discrimination law, particularly how it overlooks marginalised identities that remain on the periphery of grounds recognized in law. My work draws on comparative constitutional law, critical legal studies, and socio-legal approaches to examine how law shapes recognition, exclusion, and access to rights.

Alongside my doctoral research, I have worked on interdisciplinary projects focusing on youth, sexuality, disability, and legal education. I was the Expert Consultant for a UNFPA-supported project titled ‘Making the Invisible Visible in Law Practice and Legal Education’ which sought to understand how young people, especially those attending Law schools, engage with questions of autonomy and rights in their day-to-day life. For this two-year project, I conducted qualitative research across multiple National Law Universities, contributing to collaborative publications and curriculum interventions that integrated gender perspectives into legal education. This experience strengthened my commitment to bridging empirical research with doctrinal reform and institutional change.

My teaching focuses on encouraging students to think of law as a social institution rather than only a set of rules. I teach both core and elective courses, using discussion-based and problem-oriented methods to explore how legal systems construct ideas around poverty, professionalism, gender, and identity. I have also developed electives and clinical offerings on transgender rights.

In addition to teaching and research, I contribute to curriculum development, accessibility initiatives, and professional training programmes, and regularly participate in academic and public discussions on gender, disability, and inclusive legal practice. My broader interest lies in making legal education and equality law more responsive to lived experience and structural inequality.

Before joining NALSAR as a faculty member, I served as a Research Associate at the Centre for Disability Studies and the Centre for Legal Philosophy and Justice Education at NALSAR (2019–2020), where I worked on issues relating to disability rights and inclusive institutional frameworks. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi, graduating in 2018 with the Gold Medal for International Law Honours. I subsequently completed my LL.M. at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, receiving the Nani A. Palkhivala Memorial Gold Medal as the overall batch topper for the academic year 2018–2019. During my Master’s programme, I served as a Teaching Assistant for the Law and Poverty course. This Teaching Assistantship has played a formative role in shaping the kind of lawyering, teaching, and engaged scholarship I continue to pursue
