Dr. Rosmy Joan is an academic specialising in International Economic Law and currently serves as the Director of the Centre for International Trade and Business Laws at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
Before joining NALSAR, she was associated with the National Law University, Jodhpur, for over a decade, where she held several academic and administrative leadership positions. At NLUJ, she directed the Centre for Advanced Research and Training in Arbitration Law (CARTAL), the Centre for Studies in Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Law and Policy (CSENRLP), and the Centre for Studies in Global Trade Engagements and Negotiations (C-GTen), and coordinated the TradeLab Network.
Dr. Joan also chaired the External Initiatives Committee, the ADR Committee, and directed the editorial management of the renowned journals—Trade, Law and Development (TL&D) and the Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (IJAL).
Dr. Joan earned her B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) degree from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, securing the University First Rank, and completed her LL.M. in International Trade and Business Laws from O.P. Jindal Global University, where she graduated with a Gold Medal and First Position in the Dean’s List Award for two consecutive years.
She was also a Savitri Jindal Merit-cum-Means Graduate Scholar and completed a Harvard Law School course in International Negotiation with a perfect score. She holds a Ph.D in International Investment Law and Policy from the National Law University, Jodhpur.
Dr. Joan has received numerous accolades of national and international recognition, including the Nani A. Palkhivala Gold Medal, The City of The Hague Scholarship and the Distinguished Alumni Award from O.P. Jindal Global University. She was a Fulbright-Nehru Specialist Host Faculty, Shastri Indo-Canadian Fellow in Energy Law, and a recipient of a prestigious grant from the International Atomic Energy Agency.
A prolific writer and frequent speaker at global academic forums, Dr. Joan teaches across doctoral, postgraduate, and undergraduate programmes, contributing to scholarship in international trade, investment, energy, and arbitration law.
