Governing Bodies

The following have been created by the NALSAR Act:

General Council

The plenary authority of the University entrusted with formulating and reviewing, as and when necessary, the broad policies and programmes is the General Council. The membership of the body encapsulates for the outside world the strength of NALSAR as an institution:

  1. It serves as a symbol of the overarching guidance that the institution derives from both the judge and the jurist, both of whom are central to creation of knowledge that the university seeks to train its students in.
  2. It also retains among the members those who have been part of the institution since its inception, thus providing for a degree of continuity of endeavor that was envisaged by these founding fathers.

The following constitute, with the Chancellor as chairperson, the General Council:

Executive Council

It is the Chief Executive Authority of the University, body entrusted with all powers necessary to administer the University. It has a sizeable representation of senior government officials so as to add expertise in nuances of administration to our strong academic set-up.

Academic Council

This body has the chief responsibility of keeping NALSAR a step ahead of others in the field of legal research and education by means of ensuring that the academic planning is not only forward looking but also holistic; and thus strive to provide the very best in legal education in the nation. It works under the overall supervision of the Executive Council.

Finance Committee

This body is tasked with maintaining both efficiency and propriety and to ensure that the fiscal affairs of the university are undertaken in accordance with the norms of financial management.

The Finance Committee consists of:

The Vice-Chancellor in consultation with the faculty has constituted the following internal committees to fulfill the objectives of the university:
 

Academic and Examination Committee

This committee oversees undergraduate study in the University. It is mandated to suggest curriculum reform, undertake capacity building workshops for teachers and tutors, streamline the examination system and standardise course outlines, reading materials and teaching plans. Its current members are:

Faculty–Student Exchange Committee

The main responsibility of the committee is to finalize, and periodically review, the exchange regulations for the University. An associated task is also to come up with initiatives to encourage foreign scholars to visit NALSAR – raise funds for the same and to create awareness within the university community about opportunities available in this regard. Presently, its members are:

Library Committee

The core mandate of the committee is to audit the courses offered and create availability of books around the same. It also acts as the body that collects, and seeks to fulfil, requisition requests on the procurement of books. Its membership currently consists of:

Publications Committee

The committee is primarily tasked with ensuring academic rigour in all of the University’s publications. Its members are:

Extra Mural Lectures

It conducts weekly seminars with faculty and visiting scholars in order to invigorate the dialogic atmosphere at NALSAR. Its present members are:

Good Relations Committee

It creates the University’s public relations policy, and is entrusted with overseeing the media projection of various activities undertaken by NALSAR. Its current membership is:

Moot Court Committee

The core objective of this committee is to oversee the organisation of all the moot court competitions conducted by the University while proactively taking steps to maximize the attendance of in-house students. It also is entrusted with the creation of policy regarding participation in various national and international moots, and to regulate the financing of the same. The committee consists of:

Student Welfare Committee

Its task is to suggest and run schemes/programs for the welfare of students. Its members are:
