Judging as a Spiritual Journey

Justice Kannan, shared his experience as a web blogger, where he critiqued various judgements and raised several unpopular questions fearlessly in interest of general public. He was one of the most prominent blogging judges but after a starred question was raised in the parliament on issue of blogging by a judge and criticism from amongst the judging community, he had to withdrew the blog. He said that his pre-occupation as a lawyer was getting at the truth and as a judge to closely inquire about what is the truth there.

Judicial Appointments

Dr. Arghya holds a bachelors' degree in law from NLSIU (2008) where he graduated at the top of his class. This was followed by masters' (B.CL.) and doctoral (D.Phil) degrees in law from Oxford University. He had secured the prestigious Rhodes scholarship to study at Oxford. Later, he founded the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy in 2013 and has become a regular contributor to national newspapers and scholarly journals. I must mention that his doctoral thesis submitted at Oxford had concentrated on the problems with judicial appointments in India.

Crime and Punishment: The Law of Rape in India'

Ms. Indira Jaising is a Senior Counsel at the Supreme Court of India, and founder of an NGO, Lawyers Collective. Ms. Jaising has been the first woman to be designated a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Bombay, and the first woman Additional Solicitor General of India. She has passionately advocated women's rights and human rights causes, and argued the Githa Hariharan case, the case of Rupan Deol Bajaj, and represented the victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy, amongst others.

Extradition Litigation

Mr. Dayan Krishnan happens to be from the rare class of “self-made” lawyers, in a profession where supposedly lineage plays an instrumental role to make one’s way up. After graduating from NLSIU ,worked Santosh Hedge, a former judge of the Supreme Court and former Solicitor General of India.till 1999, after which he set up his own practice. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2014 alongside Anup Bhumbhani and Amit Sibal.

Media ethics and Democracy

Mr. Paranjoy Guha Thakurta is currently the editor of the Economic and Political Weekly (EPW). He had studied at St. Stephen's College, New Delhi and the Delhi School of Economics. In an earlier avatar, he became well known as a journalist who specialized in reporting on economic issues and has worked with several media houses such as 'Business India', 'Business World', 'The Telegraph', 'India Today' and 'The Pioneer'. For several years, he hosted the TV show 'India Talks' on CNBC India.

Personhood and Technology

Professor Gerard Quinn is a leading authority on international and comparative disability law and policy and is a professor of law at NUI Galway. 

He directs the Director of the Centre for Disability Law and Policy at the School of Law which was established by a grant from Atlantic Philanthropies in 2008. The Centre is a founding member of the Lifecourse Policy Research Institute at the University.  He was called to the Irish Bar in 1983, and holds a masters (LL.M) and doctorate in law (SJD) from Harvard Law School as well as a BA (Political Science) and LL.B from NUI Galway.
